Abstract
The initial treatment of the posterior urethral injury may be accomplished by one of two methods which are primary realignment, and immediate cystostomy only.
And it has been known that the incidence of the complications are variable and dependent upon the type of the initial treatment.
A clinical evaluation on the complications of the primary realignment of the complete posterior urethral disruption was made in 31 patients during the period of 9 years from 1981 to 1989 and the results as follow; 15 cases of stricture, 9 cases of mpotence, 2 cases of incontinence, and 3 cases of urethro-rectal and cutaneous fistula.
Most cases of the strictures were managed with dilation and visual urethrotomy and resolved without troublesome problem.
As a result, primary realignment is not superior to delayed urethroplasty but it may be an alternative method of the initial treatment of the complete posterior ur-
ethral disruption.
